Help & FAQ

Honest answers.

If you've been burned by a finance product before, you're right to be careful. Here's the straight version of how Hafen works, what it costs, and how we keep you safe.

Getting started

What is Hafen?

Hafen is a personal finance tool for people who live paycheck to paycheck. It connects to your bank, builds a clear view of your next two weeks, and shows you three real things you can do when something tight is coming up.

It is not a budgeting app, not a lender, and not a credit score product.

Is Hafen free?

Yes. Creating an account, connecting your bank, and using the dashboard is free. There is no premium tier hiding the part you actually need.

How do I sign up?

Click "Create your free account" anywhere on the site. Enter your name and email. You'll get an email when your account is ready, and from there you can connect your bank in about three minutes.

What do I need to sign up?

An email address and a U.S. bank account. That's it. We do not require a credit card, a Social Security number, or a credit pull.

How Hafen works

What does Hafen actually do?

Three things. It maps your next 14 days so you can see every paycheck and bill in one place. It flags when something tight is coming up. And it surfaces three real options when you need them — a hardship line, a bill you can shift, or a small advance from a partner if it makes sense.

How does Hafen know when bills are coming?

Once you connect your bank, Hafen looks at your transaction history to spot recurring patterns. Things like "Verizon hits the 14th every month, $64" or "rent posts on the 1st, $1,200." It uses those patterns to map out the next two weeks.

What does the 14-day map show?

Your money over the next two weeks. Every paycheck on the day it lands. Every recurring bill on the day it hits. The line between them is your buffer, and Hafen marks the days where it dips into a tight zone.

What are the "three things you can do"?

When Hafen sees a tight day coming, it generates up to three actions ranked by what helps you most. Examples include moving money from a buffer, rescheduling a bill with a provider that allows it, finding a hardship program, or — if the math really doesn't work — a small advance from a partner with the real fee shown up front.

Does Hafen work if my income is irregular?

Yes. Gig drivers, servers, freelancers, and shift workers are some of the people Hafen helps most. The 14-day map updates whenever new money lands or doesn't, so the picture is always current.

What if I have no income right now?

Hafen still helps. We surface hardship programs from your providers, flag eligibility for state and federal benefits like SNAP and energy assistance, and connect you to community resources in your area. We meet you where you are.

Money and cost

How does Hafen make money?

When we recommend an option that fits your situation — like a small advance from a partner or a financial product that genuinely helps — we may earn a fee from that partner. We only show options that actually help you, and the fee never comes out of your pocket without you seeing the full cost first.

We do not make money from people getting deeper in trouble. Late fees, overdrafts, and runaway debt are bad for our business model — not good for it.

Are there hidden fees?

No. Using the dashboard is free. If you choose to take an advance from a partner, the fee is shown up front in plain numbers — for example "$3 fee, clears Friday" — before you decide.

Will Hafen charge me an overdraft fee?

No. Hafen is not a bank and does not charge overdraft fees. In fact, the entire point of the product is to help you avoid overdrafts at your bank.

Trust and safety

Is my money safe?

Yes. Hafen connects to your bank in read-only mode. That means we can see your transactions to help you plan, but we cannot move your money. You can disconnect anytime in one click.

Is this a loan?

No. Hafen is not a lender and does not extend credit. If a small advance fits your situation, we may surface one from a partner — and you decide whether to take it.

Will Hafen affect my credit?

No. Hafen does not pull, check, or report to your credit. Signing up has zero effect on your credit score.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't sell it to data brokers. Your information is used to give you a useful view of your money — and that's it.

How is my information protected?

Your bank password never touches Hafen. The connection runs through a trusted, bank-grade service that handles authentication. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use the same security standards major banks use.

Your account

How do I disconnect my bank?

Open your account settings and tap "Disconnect bank." Done. Hafen stops reading your transactions immediately.

How do I delete my account?

Open settings and tap "Delete my account." We remove your data within 30 days. If you want it sooner, write us at hello@gethafen.com and we'll handle it within 48 hours.

How do I update my email or phone?

Settings → Profile. Change either field, and we'll send a quick verification message to confirm.

Who can use Hafen

What banks does Hafen work with?

Hafen works with most major U.S. banks and credit unions, including all of the top 50 by deposit. If your bank isn't supported yet, let us know and we'll prioritize it.

Is Hafen available in every state?

Hafen is available across the United States. Some partner advance products vary by state, but the core dashboard, the 14-day map, and the suggestions work everywhere.

Is there a minimum age?

You must be 18 or older to create a Hafen account.
